Oil and Health

The NIH will soon begin a large, prospective study to examine the health effects of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, particularly among the paid workers and volunteers who helped clean up the mess and had the most exposure to oil and dispersants.

Everyone who agrees to participate will complete a telephone interview detailing their experience with the oil spill and their current health.

Of particular interest to the researchers are cancer and respiratory, cardiovascular, hematologic, dermatologic, neurologic, reproductive, immunologic, and renal problems. Mental health will be evaluated as well.

With the Gulf communities still recovering from the catastrophe, it's good to see that any health issues will be addressed. Let's just hope the money is there to take care of any that arise.Read more at www.medpagetoday.com
